Pakistan established by the name of religion in 1947. Balochistan (present province of Pakistan) annexed to pakistan in march 1948 after the first Pakistani military operation on Balochistan. The history of Balochs is similar to the Kurds. Balochistan being a land divided in three pieces in three different countries namely Pakistan, Iran and Afghanistan. The Baloch people faced four military operations since 1948 by Pakistani army. Second military opeartion in balochistan 1971-73 resulted in killing more than 5300 people, many thousands casualities and more than 30,000 forced to take asylum in neigbouring countries.
Musharaf is the president of pakistan and cheif of army which is dominated by Punjabis. Right from the begining Pakistan is a military state, well known by interferences in Kashmir, by supporting different militant groups for example talibans, in order to disrupt the law and order in neighbouring countries. The peaceloving Balochs kept opressed, deprived, treated as second class citizen and far from basic human rights by military state.
The situation in Balochistan have been more and less tense since Pakistan grounded. There is many military bases in balochistan, which has been used to demolish the baloch people. Recently on July-August 2004 the pakistani army conducted a military operation in mekran area, killing dozens, arresting and torturing hundreds of people, many of them still sitting in torture cells.
Current situation:
A lady doctor has been raped by an army captain in Dera Bugti area situated northeast in the province for 2 months back. The local people carried out a peacefull manifestaion, army shot dead five of participant. Since this unrest is continuing.
On 17 march 2005 the army started bombing the civilian, killing 62 people among them many children, women and elderly including 32 people from hindu minority by directly bombing thier worship place and injuring more than 150. Since the military operation, created a horrible catastrophy and turning the entire province into a occupied territory, house to house search is being conducted, entire villages being shifted, civilian indiscriminately bombed, people have no access to water, food and the wounded have no medical aids. People being hindred from burring the death bodies. The already handicaped infrastructure is totaly blown upp. The military operation is still going on, military deploying more troops to the area. Their helicopters are maintaining a constant vigil.
The current chaos in Balochistan is the result of total ignorance of democratic rights, antihuman behaviour and overmilitarization in province which is kept poorest region inspite of that Balochistan is rich in precious mineral, oil and natural gas, exploited by Pakistan. People crying for clean water, schools, hospitals, jobs, shelter and other basic infrastructural needs, not more military cantonment, helicopter gunship and divastating weapons. The army is rulling the country and democarcy has been crashed. The army must realise that the most precious assets of any nation are its citizen. The problem of Balochistan cannot be solved without accepting the principals of provincial autonomy.
Unfortunately the medias in pakistan are forced to project only one side of the story and leaving the otherside in darkness.
We demand: 1 Military operation must be halted immediatley inorder to prevent further civilian casulaties. 2 The wounded civilian must be allowed to seek medical aids. 3 An independent body must be sanctioned to find out the truth of ruthless military operation.
4 The media should be allowed to visit the area and presenet a free , impartial, objective and responsible reports on current situation in Balochistan. 5 All political prisoner must be realeased urgently. 6 The responsible persons must be brought in justice.
Vi appeal from Swedish Governement to put pressure to general Musharaf in order to halt the brutal military operation in Balochistan and find a peacefull political solution .
Vi appeal to all democratic, philanthropic organisation to help the suffering people in balochistan and raise thier voice against the cruel military operation in balochistan.
